Community theatre & Music

The Parivartan Community Theatre Programme is a catalyst for change. With cultural borders becoming obscure globally, diverse indigenous and regional art practices of third world countries have often suffered a stroke of irrelevance, losing their significance to a nostalgic history.

Rangmandali

This has been conceptualized as a local repertory and envisions to keep the conventional forms of folk theatre alive and active. The Community Theatre group under this programme is called ‘Rangmandali.’

At the grassroots level, theatre still prevails as a major tool for empowerment and awareness. With Rangmandali we involve the youth in reviving the lost traditions of singing and drama that have always been prevalent in their rural geographies.

The Rangmandali team has over the years grown to be an inseparable aspect of all the domains of Parivartan, to ensure that the right message concerning various issues are delivered through both stage and street theatre, music and dance. Folk theatre and music forms a healthy repertoire of their practice. The beauty of Rangmandali is in their accessible versatility to assure the participation of different groups of people, both marginalized and privileged within a rural ecosystem.

The team has often written their own plays through many dialogues with the communities at large, thereby giving voice to the community in their productions. They have become one of the most loved bards of their time across our working area. Their body of work analyse and exhibit issues such as environmental justice, sectarian violence, human rights violations, institutional racism & internalized oppression, economic and cultural globalization, and access to adequate health care.
